Bath: Is The Bath Hotel Scene About to Join the Modern Age?
But we might be ready for a rematch, if the new Halcyon hotel lives up to its own hype. It reckons it’s going to set a “new standard of modern living” in the city. Seeing as the city in question is Bath, you might think that doesn’t mean much, but it actually sounds quite sleek: Philippe Starck bathrooms, White Company products, MP3 players (not cassettes?), plasma TVs, and walk-in showers. Everything, in fact, we’ve come to expect from hotels these days. Go Bath!
The exterior, you’ll be pleased to know, is traditional Bath – a nice Georgian building – so it’ll be as pretty as the Royal Crescent in the picture. The location is good, near the Roman Baths. And the prices, you’ll be even more pleased to know, are pretty reasonable. The hotel says rooms will cost between £99 and £145 a night, and they’re even running an opening promotion of £89 for Monday-Thursday nights in February.
The only thing that worries us is that it’s opening on 12 February and the only pictures on the (admittedly swanky) website look like this:

Right. If it’s ok chaps, we’ll wait till we’re sure the rooms are finished before we open up the wallet. We’ll be watching though.
